Summer Something, for Leslie
I've been trying to compose a poem each time I swim. Repeating it and adjusting it as I move from one side of the pool to another. Here's Monday's:
SWIM / TEEM
Amidst the beautiful backstroke
exhibited in your lane—
afloat on the frosting
water, the uppermost
one’s whole length dips into
like a finger to cull
its sweetness, that wetness
Witness the body and its propellers
Brown terrycloth yellow terrycloth
Would that your name were Terry
that you yourself tarried
thus my own lingering
made permissible

Begin tutoring training today for online tutoring service. Researching Brittlebush, which turns out to be in the sunflower family. Longing to be back on the porch of Barrio Brewery with rain going nuts on the tin roof, which reminds me of lying on hay in my dad's barn, listening to afternoon showers. A shift in breakfast. No more tempeh bacon for now. Instead, Trader Joe's quick-cooking steel cut oats with spoonful of peanut butter, cherry jam, sunflower seeds, and a pinch of brown sugar.

Summer Something or some are presumptuous.
